He was trouble from the start, but I couldn't resist.

[She was the best kind of trouble. The kind that was so wrong, it felt right.]
I’ve tried and failed to stay away from him.

[I’ve done everything in my power to make her mine and keep her.]
He’s almost impossible to say no to.
[She never tells me yes.]
We’re always fighting.
[When we’re not fighting, we’re… well… making up.]
He makes me laugh so hard.
[I miss her laugh the most.]
I'm a liar.
[She knows the truth, but won’t admit it.]
Sometimes, I wish I'd never met him.
[I wish we could meet all over again. I'd do better.]
His girlfriend knows.
[The guy she’s with is a fool.]
I’ll never love anyone like I love him.
[She doesn't love me enough to choose us.]

MY REVIEW

This has not been an easy book to review, the good ones never are, nor are the ones that hit close to home. So we are introduced to Blake Warren, fresh out of culinary school, her life seems to have itself pieced together nicely. She is dating Grant, a handsome, traditional, all- American and all-round good guy. Although she loves him she can't deny deep down that their relationship is... well...bland.

On a trip to see her best friend Micah she meets Casey Moore. After an initially cool introduction the chemistry that quickly develops between them is meteoric. Soon enough they both become aware that they are standing at the “betrayal-border of no return” and while Blake wars with her conscience and her desire to do the right thing, Casey struggles to deal with the unfamiliar emotions that have gained a stronghold of his heart.

"He wrapped his arms around me, low on my back and we swayed back and forth holding a stare that was loaded. Loaded with 'should we's and 'shouldn't we's, Loaded with pleasure and reality."

The two cannot resist the pull their souls feel to one another and the events that take place next are both exhilarating and tragic. The former because these two are so obviously made for each other; their connection is profound, and the latter because their love faces so many unavoidable obstacles, it seems hopelessly doomed. The story pulls you in until it comes to an incredibly heart-wrenching, bittersweet peak that will have you crying a river  for days after you've put it down.

This book is a shout out to all those who have risked everything in the name of love, for those brave enough to give status quo the finger and go after what their heart truly longs for no matter the cost. It is also a sobering cry to those that chose the path of least resistance in life, the "safe" route, if thats you- be warned- 'Bait' will prod the door behind which you locked away that one big love.
The one you were too scared to let yourself have.

It is written in dual point of view which was so true to life. I absolutely LOVED Casey, I fell for him hard and while I wanted to bitch slap Blake so many times I could not help but love her also. I totally empathized with the soul crushing position she found herself in...she is braver than me.

I cannot wait for the next instalment M. Mabie thank you for making me feel so many feels ♥

5 bonafide heartfelt stars!
