About the Author
K.D. Carrillo
I'm super normal.
I'm a single mom to one. Which is plenty, because my son is a genius.  How many mothers have to tell their children to turn off the documentary about Einstein so they can sleep?

I suppose it was inevitable.  My brand of rebelling in college was to minor in French when my advisor told me not to take it.

I'm a teacher by day, and wonder woman by night.  Okay, not really,  But how cool would that be?

I like long walks on the beach, and running in slow motion.  Oops,  wrong profile.

Seriously,  did I mention I'm kind of a nerd? That's in now, isn't it?

I live books.  Love isn't a strong enough word.  I think my first crush was on a Hardy Boy.  Now I've moved on to rock stars and tattooed bad boys, as long as they're fictional.

Talking about myself is weird, because I'm just me.  So anything else you want to know hit up my author page on Facebook.

Lost Heartbeats

Add to Goodreads

My name is Alexander, and I'm no fucking hero.
Not when I couldn't even save the little heartbeats I was supposed to protect with my life.
When a fist closes around my heart after a death brings me to my knees, I finally go after the woman I'd been craving for months. Not just because her beautiful face is the only thing that slips through the pain when I close my eyes, but because she has secretly carved a place for herself in my heart - leaving me with no choice.
But if I do this, if I make myself believe that I deserve her, will the choices I make ruin everything between us? Will she accept the fact that she doesn't get to leave me twice?

As soon as we made contact, she straightened, and I felt goose bumps erupt on her skin, that electric buzz playing with my own nerves.

Her hands started stroking my chest, her eyes meeting mine, and I captured one of her wrists with my hand, holding her palm flat against me.

“Alexander,” she whispered, her eyes still on mine.

“Hi, Maya,” I whispered back.

Feeling truly lost in her gaze, I found myself leaning down and breathing her in.

I felt a shiver go through her body and smiled against her neck.

“Do you know what I missed the most?” I murmured, leaving a hot trail of kisses along her jawbone.

My blurry mind registered the slow shake of her hand. I pulled her flush against my body again, my hand moving up to rest between her shoulder blades.

Hell. It was pure hell to try to hold back and not rip her clothes off of her and fuck her against the counter for all the world to see.

“I missed your skin,” I said, my hand slowly making its way down from her shoulder blades again.

She remained silent. Fine by me. I didn’t need her words. She couldn’t hide the tremble of her body even if she wanted to.

“I missed your scent,” I groaned against her ear, gently biting her ear lobe.

She tilted her head, opening up to my mouth. At that moment, I knew she would let me do anything I could possibly want to do to her. The place, the time didn’t matter. She was simply mine, and in a deep corner of her soul I was sure she knew it too.

Without touching her skin, I moved my mouth from her neck to her mouth. Just an inch of air keeping us from each other.

“Open your eyes, sweetheart,” I whispered, waiting for her to do just that.

Looking back at me was a scared woman, scared to wish, to hope. I would give her anything she would ever need. I would give her myself. My heart.

From that day forward, I would never leave her alone.

Never give her up.

She licked her lips and swayed a little, eager to get my lips on hers. I kept my palm firmly connected with her skin and never stopped caressing her back. Her goose bumps never disappeared.

“I even missed your fucking breath, Maya,” I growled, the hold I had on my urges finally snapping as I took her mouth in a searing kiss, rocking her body backward with the force, taking everything I could take from her.

About the author

I'm an avid reader. Therefore, a big dreamer. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face, and of course sometimes making you crush on fictional characters. If I can manage to do even one of those things for a reader, I will be a happy writer.
I can't even begin to describe how exciting it is to give life to new characters and fall for them. It's a different kind of addiction.
I'm still searching for my own happy ending. Until that happens, I'll live vicariously through my own characters.

I believe in love at first sight.

Now I know soulmates exist.

Nothing has ever been easy for us.

Every fight, every struggle, has been worth it.

I’m stubborn, but what woman isn’t?

She’s hard work and I love the overtime.

He’s frustrating and unpredictable. I hope he never changes.

I love driving her crazy. That’s half the fun.

Lou’s sexy curls.

Honeybee’s pink nose.

He still looks at me like I’m precious and unflawed.

She treats me like I’m the center of her world.

Our future will be full of happiness.

Despite everything, we’re two of the lucky ones.

I took the bait.

She was a lucky catch.

He is the wind in my sail.

She’s the anchor that grounds me.

The wake our love made is beautiful.

Every day I thank God for her.

No matter the hurdles, we’ve jumped them side-by-side.

No matter the obstacles, we’ve made it through together.

For better or for worse, I’d do it again.

I’ll love and protect her all the days of my life.

We made it.

We always will.

Anchor is the third book in the bestselling Wake Series. In this widely anticipated series finale, you'll see Lou and Honeybee get all they've ever wanted and more.

Pepper Winters is in superb form with the latest installment of the brilliant 'Indebted' series.
There is not much I can say without spoiling it for readers, but what I will say is
you better buckle up because this ride ain't slowing down anytime soon.

After the fall of Jethro & Kes, Nila finds herself at the mercy of the Hawkes.
Daniel, Cut and Bonny reveal the extent of their depravity as Jasmine swears to avenge the death of her brothers. But not all is as it seems and the chilling sequence of events that take place will
change everything you thought you knew!

My hand was constantly on my heart while I read in an effort to slow my pounding heart
and when it wasn't on my heart it was literally covering my mouth, open in horror at what was befalling poor Nila... how much more could she possibly withstand and will she find an ally amidst the insanity at Hawksbrige Hall?

If you havent yet picked up this series I urge you to. It is a fast paced, suspenseful and enigmatic tale that will have you gutted and torn and hanging for more.

Pepper Winters is a master at weaving intrigue, mystery and soul stirring passion into her
stories and "Fourth Debt" is no exception.

Another amazing 5 star read!!

FUNNY HOW LIFE plays practical jokes.
The past few days—that had to be a fucking joke, right?
No logical answer would make sense of what I’d seen, heard, and lived the past seventy-two hours.
My sister.
My best friend and twin.
This was what she’d been living with? This was how she’d been treated?
This was what she wanted to return to?
Motherfucking why? Why would she ever want to return to this insanity?
We’d been raised in a broken home, chained to an empire that absorbed us right from birth. But we were kept safe, warm, and loved. We grew up together. We shared everything.
But now…I had no fucking clue who my sister was.
But then she came to me.
A woman I never knew existed.
The most stunning creature I’d ever seen.
Only she didn’t come to me on feet or wings of an angel. She rolled into my life and demanded my help.
And for better or for worse…
I helped her.

Daniel cackled like a mad hyena, his fingers stabbing into my bicep. Without breaking his stride, he stole me further away from the parlour and into the bowels of the house.
I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to go anywhere with him.
“Take me back!”
He can’t be dead!
Just because he lay unmoving and bloody didn’t mean he was gone.
That’s exactly what it means.
I shook my head, dislodging those awful thoughts. He’s alive. He had to be.
I couldn’t tolerate any other answer. I refused to live in a world where evil triumphed over good. That wasn’t right—life couldn’t be that cruel.
It’s always been that way.
My mind filled with images of my mother. My father’s desolation. My broken childhood. Evil had puppeteered us from day one. Why should now be any different?
He’s not dead!
I swallowed a sob.
Please don’t be dead…
I fought harder. “Let me see him. You can’t do this!”
Daniel cackled louder. “Keep begging, Weaver. Won’t do you any good.”
He’s not dead!
I locked my knees, fighting him every step. “Stop!” Looking back the way we’d come, the door to the parlour seemed so far away—a bright beacon at the end of a festering corridor. “They were your brothers, you insane psychopath. Don’t you feel anything?!”
Please let me go to him. He has to be alive…
Please let my twin stay alive…
Let all of this be a nightmare!
I couldn’t cope with Jethro murdered; I’d go clinically insane if they killed V, too.
“I feel relief. I no longer have to put up with their simpering bullshit.” He flashed his teeth. “Cut did us all a favour.”
Cut will die.
He was evil incarnate. He deserved to die in excruciatingly painful ways.
I refuse to believe they’re dead.
“I said stop!” I wriggled harder, only succeeding in Daniel’s fingers tearing into my flesh. Goosebumps covered my skin while ice steadily froze my veins. Every second was endless torture. I couldn’t live without Jethro.
It can’t end like this!
“You won’t win, Weaver.” Daniel tugged harder. “Accept what’s fucking happened and obey me.”

Excerpt #2

Cut shook his head, looking at his mother. “They never fucking learn.”
Bonnie laughed. “Neither did you, dear. Not for a long time.”
He wrapped an arm around her brittle shoulders. “I can’t imagine ever being so terrible.”
My fingernails dug into my palm as I witnessed a seemingly normal bond. How could evil have so many layers? How could it be so obvious one moment, then hidden by family ties and hierarchy the next?
Bonnie tapped her cane against Cut’s foot. “You’re not forgetting what you did, are you? Because I have news for you—you were worse. A lot worse.” Moving forward, she dislodged his hold. “But I straightened out the mess you made. I put things right. I have every faith you will, too.”
Cut nodded. “Damn right, I will.” His eyes strained but apart from a few cracks in his smooth veneer, I would never have guessed he’d pulled the trigger on two of his children.
He’s dead.
He’s dead.
All because of me.
Inching closer to Jasmine, I whispered so only she would hear. “He tried to shoot you, but Jethro saved you. Do you have no shame?”
Her eyes zeroed in on mine. Thoughts and emotions flickered over her face but she didn’t reply.
Her betrayal hurt. Jethro and Kes had loved her. They’d died for her. Who could claim to love them in return yet continue to be in the same house as the man who’d shot them?
My stomach twisted. “You make me sick.”
Her hands tightened around the rims of her wheels. Shutters slammed over her eyes, but still no response.
Tears stung but I had nothing else to say. Only one promise that she might as well hear, so she’d know who truly loved her brother. “I’ll kill you for this. Just like I’ll kill them.”
